Damaged and Abandoned Japanese Lantern

The earthquake which caused this damage was on August 8th, 2009 in Shizuoka Japan. The tombs (haka) seen in this video are for the interment of ashes after cremation. The Inoue family have lived in this area for over 400 years. The broken lantern was removed within a day. The pieces were placed beside a family-owned farm shed in the hills. It remained there for some time before the pieces were utilized in the construction of a retaining wall. The lantern pieces now reside within the earth to possibly be one day discovered by those who may wonder at it’s origin and history.
